THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY ~ ACCEPTANCE

Proverbs 3:11~12 "My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."

Father, how you cherish Your children!  Your love for us is relentless and undeserved.  Even Your discipline is motivated by compassion.  Teach me to ACCEPT Your correction with humble gratitude.  I do not ask You to withhold Your discipline.  I only ask that You grant me the wisdom and humility to learn the lesson quickly.  I love You.  Amen.

THE MAD HATTER RETURNS

Our dear friend Tom flew out from Texas last year to celebrate my 75th Birthday at a wonderful "Mad Hatter" party our children hosted for my celebration.

Tom came fully dressed as the "Mad Hatter" and no one could have played it better.

He will be flying in Tuesday for a visit with us, and it wouldn't surprise me if he came in costume again.  Everyone on the flight last year certainly got a kick from him as he sported his Mad Hatter outfit on the flight to California.  You gotta love this guy.  We've been friends for 40+ years.

Friendship is such a precious and sometimes fragile thing. It needs to be guarded and protected.  I'm so thankful we've had Tom for these many years.

MOVIES AND RAISINETS

My dearest and I went to the movies to see Dunkirk.  I had enough points on my Premier Movie Card for a free medium candy.  I chose Raisinets.  Wasn't in the mood for candy, wishing my points would have been a free popcorn.  Oh well.

I brought the Raisinets home, and decided to put them to use in a batch of oatmeal cookies.  Added some additional chocolate chips and nuts and got some delicious tasting oatmeal cookies.

Never be afraid of trying something new!!

Can't wait till our trip to Oregon in August to see him!!!

For some reason I can't get the spaces at the top of the picture to delete.

SCRIBBLE PICNIC POSTPONED

Scribble Picnic was cancelled for today and will resume next Wednesday.  So in it's place, I will share a most delicious skillet dinner we had last night.
Two sweet Italian Sausages, potatoes, carrots and cabbage.  Lots of herbs and seasoning.  Love dinners that only mess up one pan, haha.

Dinner was served with a slice of sour dough bread, and enough left over veggies for another meal.  In fact, this morning I added onions and bell peppers to the veggies, and had them with eggs over easy for breakfast.

Don't you love finding new ways to use "leftovers".  I do!

So next week, Scribble Picnic will continue with the theme "Curtain."  Hope you plan on coming back next week for
"The Final Curtain Call"

WANDA'S SCONE RECIPE

Several people have ask me for the Scone Recipe I use, so I'm posting it for anyone who is interested.
It's an easy recipe and only takes 15-20 minutes baking time.

APRICOT, WHITE CHOCOLATE, WALNUT SCONES

2 cups all purpose flour                1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup granulated sugar              1 cup white chocolate chips
2 teaspoons baking powder           1 cup chopped dried apricots
1/2 teaspoon salt                             (or dried cranberries, etc.)
1/4 cup butter, chilled                    1 cup chopped walnuts or
1/2 cup Half/Half                                     pecans.
1 large egg

Preheat oven to 375 degrees
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.  Cut the butter in small cubes and distribute over the flour mixture.  With a pastry blender mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add chips, dried fruit and nuts to mixture and mix until all are completely coated.  Make a well in the middle and pour in the mixture of half/half, egg and vanilla.  Mix until you form a dough.
Turn out on floured board and knead until you have formed a ball.

Cut the ball in half, and form two smaller balls.  With lightly floured hands pat dough into two circles.  Place on parchment lined cookie sheet.   Pat to desired size.  With a serrated knife, cut into eight wedges each.  Bake 15 - 20 minutes or until bottom and top of lightly browned.

When you take them out of the oven, I re-score the wedges so they come apart easy.

Cool on wire rack, and if you have a sweet tooth like me.....add some drizzle.  (Powdered sugar and water)

Put on a pot of coffee, or a kettle for tea.  Sit down, put your feet up....and enjoy!!!!

PS ~ They freeze very well.  Sometimes I freeze on of the circles for surprise visitors.  In the micro, and they are ready to serve.

DIRTY CARPET AND SCATTER RUGS

Image result for Scatter rugs

Dear Lord, sometimes a pretty scatter rug covers a stained and dirty carpet.  The dirt is well hidden, but it's still there.

There are times in my life, Lord, that I put a pretty good deed over an attitude I'm trying to hide, or a sin unconfessed.   I know you see everything, so how silly of me to try to hide anything from you.

Forgive me for having spiritual scatter rugs... Cleanse and clean my heart, wipe away every unkind attitude or thought that does not please You.   You are my gracious Lord, and I love You.  Amen.

This little devotional thought came to me as I was telling my dearest, we HAVE TO GET THIS CARPET CLEAN...I'm tired of putting down scatter rugs to hide some stains that I couldn't get up. Then the Lord reminded me I had put a few scatter rugs down on my heart.   Oh happy day when we reach heaven, and this old nature will be gone forever....in the meantime, I know I'm flawed..and sinful, and daily make the choices to live through the power of the Holy Spirit, and the applying of God's Word.  Some days are harder than others.

Do you ever get little "Spiritual" wake up calls???

Very excited that my dearest has been invited to preach tomorrow in a church we attended before we moved to Villa Ramona.  He misses preaching...and I miss hearing him.  Please say a prayer that his message will touch the hearts of those who hear it.

A SCONE KIND OF DAY

The cookie jar was empty.  I wasn't in the mood to make any.  What really sounded good was scones.  This recipe is so easy and only takes 15-20 minutes to bake.  I was out of white chocolate chips, which I usually use, but I had some dried cranberries and pecans.  Actually you can add anything you want!!

If you know me at all....you know I put drizzle on everything.  So my scones aren't complete without some drizzle.

Making a pot of coffee and will enjoy a scone while watching the "Dodger" game.

SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ Ladybug/Ladybird

 Wanda's watercolor ~~ googleimage.com photo

The theme this week is "ladybug or ladybird".  When I saw ladybird ~ I immediately thought of a  "particular LADY BIRD" so decided on trying a portrait of Lady Bird Johnson.

Since I love painting people, I found a photograph of the First Lady during the 60's ~  and used it for my model.  Not a very good likeness, but it was sure fun doing it.

In reading about her, I see she had the nick name "Lady Bird" since a small child.  Our daughter was born in 1963 when LBJ was in office and we started calling her Julie Bird.  She didn't like it, but it strikes me funny that she uses it for her email address as an adult....haha.

To see all the ladybugs, or ladybirds...just click on the Scribble Picnic Badge on the top of my sidebar.

PRAYER CHANGES THINGS

Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Oh Lord, we live in a world that is constantly moving.  Being still almost feels wasteful.  But I know that downtime is exactly what You want from us.  But You say, be still, pray, listen instead of jumping into action and hoping things will work out.  Spend time with Me and let me direct your next move.  Lord, let this be my daily prayer.  I love You.  Amen.

May your Sunday be a day to take time to be still, listen, and smell the roses.  Blessings!

SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ FILL IN THE BLANK!

A very interesting theme this week!! Michael, the host of Scribble Picnic, is making everyone stretch their artistic minds.  Ouch...this was a stretch but what fun.

Below is the what we started with...Fill in the Blank!  A dot and a line....go figure.  Did you notice.. the title Tinker Toys is also done with circles and lines...HaHa..this was fun!!

I stared at it for a few minutes, and a for some reason, the picture of Tinker Toys came into my mind as plain as day!!!  When our children were little, we had shoe boxes full of Tinker Toys, and they spent endless hours building things.  Yes, Tinker Toys are round circles and lines...  Can't wait to see what the other artists came up with.  Join me in looking by clicking on the Scribble Picnic Badge at the top of my sidebar.

THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY

Image result for max lucado

Max Lucado has a small devotional book called Grace for the Moment. It has changed my attitude as I have made the "choice" to live out the Fruit of the Spirit.  I hope these few choices will encourage you as much as they have me.  PRAY these choices every morning..and see how different your day goes.

I CHOOSE LOVE ~~
No occasion justifies hatred:  no injustice warrants bitterness.  I choose love.  Today I will love God and what God loves.

I CHOOSE JOY ~~
I will invite my God to be the God of circumstance.  I will refuse the temptation to be cynical ...the tool of the lazy thinker.  I will refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God.  I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God.

I CHOOSE PEACE ~~
I will live forgiven.  I will forgive so that I may live.

I CHOOSE PATIENCE ~~
I will overlook the inconveniences of the world.  Instead of cursing the one who takes my place, I'll invite him to do so.  Rather complain that the wait was too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray.  Instead of clinching my fists at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage.

I CHOOSE KINDNESS ~~
I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone.  Kind to the rich, for they are afraid.  And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.

I CHOOSE GOODNESS~~
I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one.  I will be overlooked before I will boast.  I will confess before I will accuse.  I choose goodness.

I CHOOSE FAITHFULNESS~~
Today I will keep my promises.  My debtors will not regret their trust.  My associates will not question my word.  My wife will not question my love.  And my children will never fear that their father will not come home.

I  CHOOSE GENTLENESS ~~
Nothing is won by force.  I choose to be gentle.  If I raise my voice may it be only in praise.
If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer.
If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.

I CHOOSE SELF-CONTROL~~
I am a spiritual being....
After this body is dead, my spirit will soar.  I refuse to let what will rot, rule the eternal.  I choose self-control.  I will be drunk only by joy.  I will be impassioned only by faith.  I will be influenced only by God.  I will be taught only by Christ.  I choose self-control.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
To these I commit my day.  If I succeed, I will give thanks.  If I fail, I will seek his grace.  And then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest.
                       ~~Max Lucado

Dear Lord, I know I can do none of this in my own strength.  Only you, through the Holy Spirit, can make this a reality in my life.  I will make this my prayer every day!!! I love You.  Amen.

Have a great Sunday!!

WHAT'S FOR DINNER?

Saw this recipe on facebook, and it was delicious.  One medium spaghetti squash.  Two sweet Italian sausages.  One cup spaghetti sauce.  You choice of grated cheese.

I cooked my squash in the crock pot, as it was a hot day, and didn't want to heat of the kitchen.  When the squash was almost tender I added the sausage links to the crock pot.
When the squash was done, and the sausage brown, I removed them from the crock pot.
Cut the squash in half and took out the seeds.  Cut the sausage in small slices.  Worked the squash away from the sides and added some butter.  Place the sausage on top, poured on the
sauce I had heated in the microwave. Added the grated cheese.  Put in the micro long enough to melt the cheese and re-heat.

It was so simple and so delicious, and the squash made the bowl to serve it in.  Will do this again as my dearest loved it.

CHURCH REUNION AND FAMILY MEMORIES

Image may contain: 1 person, standing and indoor

The church we served in for 27 years is having a Church Reunion in late August.  During those 27 years our family spent a week every summer at "Camp Sugar Pine" near Oakhurst, CA.  This picture was taken on one of those early trips.

Three grandchildren and two great grandsons were not even a thought in this picture.  How our family has continued to grow since then.

ALL the children in this picture are either married, in college or high school.  Can you find me and Don?

Can't wait for the reunion and getting a lot of new pictures of these dear people we had the honor and privileged to shepherd for those 27 years.

SCRIBBLE PICNIC ~ WATERMELON

The theme this week is "WATERMELON"  I love this theme as I have loved watermelon since my youth.  We lived in an agricultural area and watermelons were a plenty!!! The above is a sketch with colored pencils of a little gal sitting on the back of a pick up truck. She's having a nice slice before helping her father deliver them to market.

This watercolor I did several years ago after taking my grandson to a Watermelon Festival.  He won the watermelon seed spitting contest with a seed that went 16 feet!

As you can see, my canisters are watermelons.  There are four but only three got in this picture with my Banana Crunch loaves.  I bought these about 20 years ago at a little boutique for $20 for the set.  I love them today as much as the day I bought them.

To see all the other "Watermelon" entries, just click on the Scribble Picnic at the top of my sidebar.

Think I'll go have a slice of watermelon!

MARRIAGE ~ ~A BEAUTIFUL THING.

Marc and Amanda ~ met in Kindergarten.  Went through K-12 together.  In High School began dating ~ 8 years later, the big day.
The gentleman that married them has been a special part of their lives.  He was the 6th grade teacher, and later when they were in high school was Assistant Principal.  A wonderful Christian man who has been a special part of their lives.
Beautiful bridesmaids.  Candice on the left, our grandson Michael's wife.  Next is our granddaughter, Monique, and on the right a close friend of Amanda's.  Her cousin Venessa is hidden behind her veil.  (sorry)
Let's make sure your microphone and tie are straight!!
Our grandson, Michael and his wife Candice and our two great grandsons, Matthew and Issac.
The Siblings ~ our oldest daughter Michel's, three.  (If you want to know what I looked like in my twenties ~ it's Monique on the right.)
Mr. and Mrs. Marc Torres having their first dance!
Melt my heart....the little boy who spent summer days with us up in Hughson, playing with the cats and dogs and collecting rocks.

One of the sweetest parts of the ceremony is when they wove together "Three Strands" to show their marriage was based on three....Marc, Amanda, the Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior.
This marriage will be bless from above.
